Differential Phase Error Parameter (D)

Problem:
What is meant by the differential phase error parameter (D)?

Solution:
The differential phase error parameter, D, is defined as the change in ac phase with change in dc level. The ac signal is 40 IRE (0.28 V PK ) and the dc level change is ±100 IRE (±0.7 V). It is typically tested at 3.58 MHz (NTSC) or 4.43 MHz (PAL) carrier frequencies. D is expressed in units of °.
